When Things Fall Apart (from the teachings of Pema Chödrön)
"There is a fundamental opportunity for happiness right within our
reach, yet we usually miss it – ironically, while we are caught up in
attempts to escape pain and suffering.... There is only one approach
to suffering that is of lasting benefit, Pema teaches, and that
approach involves moving toward painful situations with friendliness
and curiosity, relaxing into the essential groundlessness of our
entire situation." When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chödrön
During this program we will take a look at Pema's commentary on
traditional Buddhist teachings. The program will include talks,
discussion, and guided meditation practice. All are welcome.
Appropriate to all levels of practice experience, including beginners.

The Blame Game: Who Wins?
When accidents happen or when the circumstances of our lives are
painful, uncomfortable, or just plain displeasing, we often look
around reflexively to assign blame. Sometimes we blame others,
sometimes we blame forces beyond our control, and sometimes we blame
ourselves. In all these cases, we assume that someone or something is
to blame and entangle ourselves in a fruitless pursuit of satisfaction
and resolution. The contemplative teachings of Buddhadharma and
Shambhala take quite a different approach to what takes place in our
lives. We will take a closer look at blame and our experience of it.
The talk will include some contemplative practice and an open
discussion.
Jesse Miller has been a student of the teachings of Chögyam Trungpa
Rinpoche and Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche for over thirty years. He is a
long-time meditation instructor and teacher of the Shambhala
teachings. He has worked as Pema Chödrön's assistant teacher in
several large programs in Northern California and at the Shambhala
Mountain Center over the last seven years. Jesse is a member of the
Berkeley Shambhala Center and travels frequently to lead programs
throughout the western United States and New Zealand.
