Established in 2004, the Kailua Shambhala Meditation Center on Oahu, Hawaii provides an open meditation space, instruction in meditation for beginners or experienced practitioners, and a diverse variety of evening and weekend programs to help participants discover sanity, gentleness and humor.

Kailua Shambhala Meditation Center is part of a network of over 100 Shambhala Centers located throughout the world provide a common ground where the various activities of practice, study and contemplative arts all take place. These include:

• group meditation practice;
• Buddhist educational programs;
• Shambhala Training events and programs;
• Nalanda activities such as kyudo and ikebana;
• cultural events, including community gatherings, celebration of holidays, weddings, funerals;
• children's celebrations.

At the heart of of our center is the meditation hall, where students practice the discipline of meditation and receive teachings from qualified teachers. The meditation hall offers a beautiful, open and protected space for practice, instruction and community gatherings. At the Center, you may meet and talk with meditation practitioners and instructors who can tell you from first-hand experience about the various activities of the Center and how you can participate in them.

The Shambhala network of centers was founded under the guidance of Chögyam Trungpa, Rinpoche, Tibetan Buddhist scholar and meditation master. Currently his son, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, presides over the Shambhala International Network.

Shambhala represents a willingness to awaken into our world with fearlessness, and to appreciate the wealth and subtlety that surrounds us. This can be discovered through the study and practice of traditional Buddhism or other disciplines which cultivate our hearts as well as our awareness. At the Kailua Shambhala Buddhist Meditation Center, we present a range of disciplines which share one core ethic: Wakeful Intelligence. Our community includes people of all ages and walks of life who are exploring their world as individuals, together.

You are warmly invited to join us.
